The easiest way to match the holes to the furring (if you use it) is to simply hold the furring in place and drill pilot holes thru both materials then drill the metal out to fit your rivenut and the furring to fit you bolt size. The tool collapses the nut, creating a backside flange that holds the nut to the material. Install in a drilled hole using a rivet nut tool. The body and flange are zinc yellow-chromate plated steel for corrosion resistance. Different types of rivenuts of the same bolt size often need different size holes depending on several factors so don’t make the mistake of thinking one siz hole will fit on rivenut s of the same bolt size. These rivet nuts have a ribbed body to hold them in place when tightening a screw. Rivet nuts, also known as blind nuts, install into thin or weak materials and provide a female-threaded mounting point. For convenience I typically use ¼ - 20 or 5/16 - 18 as the bolts are commonly available everywhere. Use either metric or SAE sizes or mix and match. Once installed these rivet nuts have a large back flange that distributes. Use a drill bit to create a straight hole, then taper the top half. The hole you need to drill is based on the outer diameter of the rivnut. Comes with 8 rivet nuts, install tool and 25/64 drill bit.
